One of the things that sets TCBTS apart from other behaviour/training organisations is that although very important, we do not believe that academic study should be the only criteria to consider when looking at a career in working with dogs and owners, or when an owner is looking for someone to help them with their dog.
Indeed, we strongly believe that academic knowledge on its own, without the necessary hands-on practical experience, does not bring the necessary depth of knowledge needed for your client to gain maximum benefit from a consultation or training session. Techniques that work scientifically may well be impractical for the pet owner who is trying to juggle a busy household and a full time job.
First and foremost an enthusiasm to gain more experience in canine behaviour and/or dog training.
To be conversant with scientific knowledge and up-to-date research appertaining to canine behaviour and training.
To have considerable communication skills and hands on experience with a large number of dogs. This takes time and application which is why we have structured TCBTS criteria for affiliation to encourage education, experience and growth.
To comply with the strict TCBTS Code of Ethics and Practice.
